I have the scripts installed on a couple of machines in our environment and have them scheduled with cron. With all this in mind, I have created an rsync script that basically does what time machine does just without the shiny interface. By enabling the unsupported volumes my concern is that if any of the backups become corrupt, we will get no help from Apple. I am also concerned about the fact that now time machine is being utilized in a way that is not supported by Apple. arRsync alternatives are mainly File Sync Tools but may also be File Copy Utilities. Other great apps like arRsync are RsyncOSX, Truck - Rsync Client, MirrorFolder and lsyncd. The best alternative is rsync, which is both free and Open Source.
